Black Hawk Healthy Benefits Joints & Muscles has been developed to support joint and muscle health in adult dogs. This tasty kibble contains natural sources of glucosamine and chondroitin for cartilage support, essential minerals like calcium and phosphorus for healthy joints and bones, and L-carnitine for fuelling strong, healthy muscles.
This nutrient-dense formula is ideal for dogs who are highly active and frequently exercising and larger-breed dogs who are carrying greater body weights. We can also confidently recommend it for older dogs, where joint ‘wear and tear’ can become a problem.
Specially formulated with ingredients like glucosamine, chondroitin green-lipped mussel and fish oil to provide optimal support for your dog’s joints and cartilage. Glucosamine is a type of amino sugar that is found in the shells of shellfish, as well as in animal bones and bone marrow. Glucosamine is believed to work by providing building blocks for the growth and maintenance of joint tissue, including cartilage and synovial fluid leading to healthier joints. Chondroitin, derived from marine sources, is a naturally occurring compound and an essential component of cartilage which provides structural support to cartilage and helps to maintain cartilage elasticity.
Another key ingredient in joint support is green-lipped mussels, which is a type of shellfish from New Zealand. It contains many beneficial nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine, chondroitin, and antioxidants that can help support cartilage and joint health, improve mobility, and support overall health. Ingredients like glucosamine, chondroitin & green-lipped mussel are commonly grouped together for their synergistic effect. This means that their paired health benefit outweighs what is seen when used as a single additive. While these ingredients are not a cure for joint problems, it is often used in conjunction with other treatments, such as exercise and weight management, to help support joint health and mobility in dogs.
Fish oil contains EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are omega-3 fatty acids commonly found in marine sources. Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of essential fatty acid that cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through diet. Omega 3 fatty acids have a number of potential health benefits for dogs, including cartilage and joint support, improved skin and coat health, and support for your dog’s eyes and brain function.
Healthy Benefits Joints & Muscles is also packed with all the essential amino acids, fats, and L-carnitine a dog needs for strong, healthy muscles. L-carnitine is an amino acid that helps turn fats into fuel for the cells, providing your dog with the energy they need to exercise and play.
Our fresh Australian chicken is carefully preserved and minimally processed to retain nutrients and maintain freshness. It’s also highly palatable. Along with chicken meal and hydrolysate, it is rich in the amino acids which help build and maintain your dog’s muscle mass.
Chicken (meal & fresh), oats, field peas, chicken fat (preserved with natural antioxidants), rice, chickpeas, faba beans, natural chicken flavour, beet pulp, hydrolysed chicken, essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, fish oil, sweet potato, carrot fibre, dried yeast extracts, sea kelp, tomato, zinc proteinate, coconut oil, D-glucosamine, green-lipped mussel, emu oil, L-carnitine, selenium yeast, Yucca schidigera extract, blueberries, carrots, cranberries, peppermint, pumpkin seeds, dandelion, and rosemary.

Frequently asked questions
Does Black Hawk dog food contain any additives or preservatives?
Black Hawk wet and dry food contains only natural preservatives. A natural preservative is one that occurs naturally in nature, as opposed to a chemical preservative that is made synthetically such as BHT, BHA or ethoxyquin which are often found in cheaper brands.
The natural preservatives we use in our products include rosemary extract, vitamin E (tocopherol) and vitamin C.
Why do you include chicken fat in your recipes?
Fat is included in pet foods to deliver a number of nutritional benefits to the dogs and cats we feed. This includes the provision of energy, but also essential nutrients (eg linoleic acid) and others that impart valuable health benefits when consumed (omega 3 fatty acids, for example). Some fats are incorporated into bodily structures, and some take on more functional roles, like those which form hormones or support the immune system.
Apart from the nutritional need to include fat, it also assists in food selection and consumption. Both dogs and cats find fats palatable, and this is one driving force behind product acceptance.
- It’s digestible, meaning that it is easily absorbed and processed by dogs and cats
- Availability and supply is reliable, meaning we can reliably incorporate it into our diets now and in the future
- And it also fits with our natural philosophy.
We generally use fat from chicken sources because it consistently delivers on the above qualities.
Our chicken fat come from minimally processed sources, where we’re looking to preserve the value of this ingredient all the way to your pet’s bowl.
Where is Black Hawk dog food made?
Black Hawk kibble is made at our new state of the art facility in Parkes, New South Wales, using fresh local ingredients, ensuring nutritional excellence and superior quality.
Our kibble is gently roasted at a lower and more even temperature, which creates higher palatability. Put simply, our kibble is even tastier.
We undertake regular audits not only of our ingredient suppliers, but of the factories which make our foods, to ensure compliance to our product specifications.
These sites adhere to good manufacturing practices, dictated by organisations such as the PFIAA (Pet Food Industry Association of Australia), and the NZPFMA (New Zealand Pet Food Manufacturer’s Association). These organisations uphold and advocate for the highest standards of pet food production and PFIAA sets an Australian Standard (AS5812), acting as the ‘public face’ of the pet food industry.
